New Tetractys Co-Directors

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tetractys New Music Welcomes Julie Fiore and Steven Sérpa as Co-Directors

AUSTIN, TX (August 15, 2024) — Tetractys New Music (TNM) is excited to announce the appointment of Julie Fiore and Steven Sérpa as co-directors of the organization. Both bring a wealth of experience and creativity to their new roles, further enhancing Tetractys' mission to cultivate a vibrant new music scene in Austin.

As co-directors, Fiore and Sérpa join co-founders & directors Michael Zapruder, Chris Prosser, and James Parker to continue building TNM's decade-long legacy of innovation and excellence. The expanded leadership team will work to engage and inspire audiences while supporting and encouraging the growth, inclusivity, and diversity of Austin's indie-classical community.

“Both Julie and Steven bring a wealth of experience producing contemporary music concerts in the Austin area, so they share our passion for bringing new music to audiences across the city,” says Zapruder. “They share a deep knowledge of the indie-classical scene. It’s a natural fit, and as a bonus, they know how to work hard, have fun, and get the job done – all while showing love for what they do.”

Julie Fiore is known for her dynamic approach and vision as a changemaker. As the Founder and Artistic Director of One Ounce Opera, Fiore is a fierce advocate for diverse, connective, and inclusive musical experiences and “meeting folks where they are.” Alongside decades of production experience and two degrees in music performance, Fiore is a skilled arts administrator and storyteller, serving as a Creative Strategist at Zanate Ventures, a marketing & content firm based in Austin.

Steven Sérpa, a celebrated composer and performer with degrees in music composition and early music performance, has earned acclaim for his work which bridges genres from high art to popular music, focusing on themes of queerness and inclusivity. Sérpa's compositions have been performed by renowned ensembles such as the American Composers Orchestra, Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Austin Symphony Orchestra, Juventas New Music Ensemble, and the Grand Teton Music Festival

However, Fiore and Sérpa aren’t completely new to the organization; in 2023 and 2024, they joined Tetractys as the Producing Director and Assistant Director, respectively, for TNM’s successful indie-classical music festival Here Be Monsters.

Here Be Monsters (HBM) is the flagship event produced by Tetractys. Both Fiore and Sérpa have been pivotal in the festival's organization, helping shape its vision and execution as a connective community event. The festival aims to reveal and revere the diverse cultural identity of the local new music scene. This year (2024), HBM grew from a one-day event to a weekend festival with two stages; audiences enjoyed the varied styles and colors offered by 20 of Austin’s preeminent indie-classical ensembles in a welcoming, accessible atmosphere. The next Here Be Monsters is slated for May 24 & 25, 2025 at Radio/East in Austin, and work has already begun.

“After partnering with Julie and Steven to produce Here Be Monsters and witnessing their incredible contributions in making HBM such a success, asking them to join Tetractys New Music on a more official basis was the easiest decision we’ve ever made,” says Prosser. “We’re thrilled they’ve accepted, and we look forward to working together year-round to make HBM 2025 and beyond better than ever.”
